This Sunday, the Bianconeri are back in action after the international break, as we take on Bologna at Allianz Stadium in Matchday Eight of the Serie A season. Perhaps unbeknownst to some, but Juve-Bologna has involved a lot of tense, nail-biting finishes that have been decided by big, late goals. So, to get you in the mood for Sunday’s match we take a look at five of the biggest Juventus-Bologna goals!
PAUL POGBA: JUVENTUS 2-1 BOLOGNA 2012/13
Arriving in the summer of 2012, Paul Pogba was beginning his path in Bianconero that would see him go on to become a global star. Immediately decisive from the off, Paul would further demonstrate it in the dying embers of this wet, Wednesday night match on Halloween 2012.
Following a frustrating first half that finished 0-0 after Federico Agliardi had saved several attempts on the Bologna goal, Juve found the breakthrough just nine minutes into the second, Pogba’s brilliant chipped pass found Emmanuele Giaccherini’s head in the box to nod into the path of Fabio Quagliarella to tap home. Bologna would peg us back though on 71 minutes through Saphir Taider to tie the game up. Just when the game looked to be heading to a 1-1 draw, Sebastian Giovinco swung a delightful ball into the box and up popped Pogba to head in a dramatic late stoppage time winner!
MARK IULIANO: JUVENTUS 1-1 BOLOGNA 2002/03
At Juventus we win. There is no coming second. However, a string of three important draws in a busy and complicated week at the end of November would all prove to be vital come the end of the season. Not only that, but despite not winning, Juventus battled back in all three of these tough fixtures, showing that Fino Alla Fine spirit.
Before successive 2-2 draws away at Deportivo La Coruna and Roma, Juventus hosted Bologna on Matchday 11 of the 2002/03 season. The Rossoblu, a tough outfit under then coach, Carlo Mazzone proved themselves to be tricky customers in Turin and went ahead in the match from a Giuseppe Signori penalty on 66 minutes. It looked like the Emilia-Romanans would be heading back to Bologna with an unlikely upset, however four minutes from time, Mark Iuliano headed in a late equaliser to secure what would be an important point.
MASSIMO TARANTINO (OWN-GOAL): JUVENTUS 2-1 BOLOGNA 2001/02
Heading towards the business end of the 2001/02 season, the Bianconeri welcomed Bologna to the Stadio delle Alpi for Matchday 25 of the campaign. An even first half saw the away side draw first blood when Lamberto Zauli dinked over Gianluigi Buffon to put Bologna a goal up. Their lead would last just 90 seconds however, as throw-in fell to Pavel Nedved in the box and his high side-footed pass across goal was headed home by David Trezeguet to make it 1-1.
In the second half Juventus would continue to pepper the Bologna goal but seasoned shot-stopper, Gianluca Pagliuca stood firm, denying several Bianconeri chances. Both sides would lose a man a-piece five minutes from time, when both goalscorer, Zauli and Cristian Zenoni were dismissed. Marcello Lippi’s men wouldn’t give up and in the 89th minute a cross into the box from Gianluca Pessotto was headed into the Bologna goal by Massimo Tarantino in attempting to clear the dangerous ball, giving us a late, late 2-1 win.
FILIPPO INZAGHI: JUVENTUS 3-2 BOLOGNA 1997/98
The penultimate fixture and final home game of the 1997/98 season, Juventus faced Bologna knowing that they could seal their 25th title. Things began in the worst way for us though, with Bologna taking an 11th minute lead through Igor' Kolyvanov’s volley. On 34 minutes however, we were level: Pessotto found Zinedine Zidane out in space on the left and his cross into the box was met by the head of Filippo Inzaghi to make it 1-1.
On 50 minutes we were in front and again it was a Zidane-Inzaghi combo, with Zizou playing a through ball through to Pippo who side-footed the ball home to make it 2-1. But our lead would only last six minutes, with a similar combo produced by ex-Juve players: Giancarlo Marocchi and Roberto Baggio, with the latter chipping over the on-coming Angelo Peruzzi to tie the game at 2-2. We wouldn’t be denied and some brilliant skill by substitute, Daniel Fonseca allowed him to cross in and meet the feet of Inzaghi to seal his hat-trick, win us the match and award us the Scudetto!
ZINEDINE ZIDANE: JUVENTUS 1-0 BOLOGNA 1996/97
Just one goal in this one, and what a class goal it was! On 51 minutes, Zinedine Zidane stepped up to hit an absolutely sensational free-kick that gave Francesco Antonioli in the Bologna goal no chance. Considering that Juventus would eventually go on to win the Serie A title finishing just two points above second-placed Parma, it could easily be argued that Zizou’s magic was vital to this 24th Scudetto win.
