A Perfect Day | Sevilla - Juventus | 22 November 2016

The last time Sevilla hosted Juventus was on 22 November 2016, a Matchday 5 group stage appointment in the UEFA Champions League. The result on the night favoured the visitors, with many memorable moments in the match to reminisce upon.

ALLEGRI'S 4-3-3

Against Jorge Sampaoli, the fiery Argentine coach, Allegri set up his side in a 4-3-3 formation, springing a surprise by fielding a defender in attack. The starting eleven at the Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium was made up as follows: Buffon; Dani Alves, Rugani, Bonucci, Evra; Khedira, Marchisio, Pjanic; Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Alex Sandro.

GOING BEHIND

The hosts began the encounter on the front foot, and took the lead after just nine minutes through Nicolas Pareja. The Bianconeri didn't let the early goal get to them however, as they pressed high up the pitch, even more so after Sevilla's Franco Vasquez received his marching orders with ten minutes left in the first half. Juve created many chances to equalise, the best fell to Sami Khedira, whose effort narrowly missed the mark.

LEVEL BEFORE THE BREAK

On the stroke of half-time, this visitors drew level from the spot. Claudio Marchisio stepped up to fire past Sergio Rico, who dived the right way and got a touch on the ball. The Juve number 8's celebrations depicted the entire side's fire and desire to complete the comeback.

LEAVING IT LATE

And the comeback was indeed completed, although the Old Lady left it extremely late. With just six minutes remaining, the Bianconeri took the lead, Leonardo Bonucci collected a loose clearance and fired an unstoppable strike into the back of the net from outside the box.

SEALING THE DEAL

In injury-time, Mario Mandzukic made sure the three points returned to Turin. Marchisio was the architect of the goal: his pass found the Croatian in space down the left. Mario advanced towards the goal, cutting inside before slotting home with his right foot. The final score: Sevilla 1-3 Juventus.
