Last year the Derby della Mole at the home of Torino was played in October, on a Saturday with an early evening kick-off. This season, same place, same time, albeit two weeks later, Saturday 15 October 2022.
The symbolic image of the match one year ago can only be the embrace between Manuel Locatelli and Federico Chiesa, in the background the scoreboard signalling the change in the scoreline, which would become the final score: Torino 0-1 Juventus.
THE STARTING XI
It was Serie A Matchday 7 and Massimiliano Allegri opted for a 4-4-2 starting line-up.
Szczesny in goal. In defence, Danilo, De Ligt, Chiellini and Alex Sandro. In midfield, Bernardeschi, McKennie, Locatelli and Rabiot. Up front, Kean and Chiesa.
ALL SQUARE AT THE BREAK
The first half ended goalless. The Bianconeri created the first real chances, with Moise Kean and Weston McKennie going close in the first five minutes. Szczesny was not called on too often, even if he had to make a big save from a Rolando Mandragora pile driver just before the interval.
THE DRIVING FORCE
Among the most positive performances of that derby was Adrien Rabiot's. The first dangerous runs came from the Frenchman, whose power and pace was making the difference in a match decided by the midfield battle.
In the second half, Rabiot created chances for Manuel Locatelli and Federico Chiesa, neither produced the finishing touch, but it was only a matter of time...
THE MATCH WINNER
The moment that decided the contest came four minutes from the final whistle. Locatelli was the scorer, inspired by Chiesa. The opposition of Bremer, a future Juventus teammate, was not enough to prevent the midfielder's shot nestling into the net.
In injury time Dejan Kulusevski rattled the post as Juve almost grabbed a second.
A DERBY BOW
Giorgio Chiellini stood tall in defence. Other than perfectly timing a tackle on Sasa Lukic in the Juve penalty area, Giorgio the G3eat pushed forward, throwing his weight in attack in what was the last derby of his splendid career.
