Massimiliano Allegri believes Juventus have an excellent chance of emerging victorious from the two-legged last 16 tie with Borussia Dortmund but says keeping a clean sheet on home soil is vital to their hopes of progression.
He appreciates the attacking talents available to opposite number Jurgen Klopp will ensure his defenders are kept on their toes throughout - particularly in counter-attacking situations - but claims the hosts are also capable of giving goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller plenty of food for thought tomorrow night.
Speaking to the media at Juventus Stadium, Allegri began: “We’re at home and it’s crucial we keep a clean sheet, even though we know they score plenty of goals.
“We’re aware of the pace and technique possessed by their front four and we need to try and restrict them, showing great intensity in our play. Having said that, our attack and midfield are also capable of putting the ball away.
“We’re aware that we’ve got a great chance of going through, whilst at the same time showing our respect for a team who have achieved great things on the international scene over the past few years.”
While the Bianconeri continue to fly high at the summit of Serie A, Borussia approach the game in 12th position following a difficult first half of the 2014/15 campaign.
Allegri believes the 2013 Champions League finalists’ current Bundesliga placing is in no way a true reflection of their abilities and is confident the German outfit, guided by the talents of Klopp, will resume normal service before the season draws to its conclusion.
“Borussia’s position is an anomaly and I’m convinced that they’ll be in and around the top spots by the end of the season. Aside from Bayern, the league’s very compact. Klopp has rebuilt the team, winning the Bundesliga and making great strides in Europe. He’s a great coach.”
