Allegri: “One step at a time”

Massimiliano Allegri refused to get carried away after watching Juventus open up a four-point gap at the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over Atalanta.

It may be a nice cushion to have going into the final 10 games of the season but the coach is far too experienced to think the title race might be over.

“We mustn't start thinking the Scudetto is suddenly in the bag,” he began after the match. “It's a decisive stage of the season but we must take things one step at a time, keep our heads and replenish our mental energy. You have to keep raising the bar in every game.

“Napoli are right up there behind us and we need lots of points to win the title.

“Now we have to play SPAL and it's never easy to win in Ferrara. We're expecting a real battle.”

Meanwhile Juventus keep on racking up the clean sheets and now boast both the best defence and best attack in Serie A.

“I'm more interested in the defensive side,” explained the boss, who again witnessed two of his defensive stalwarts, Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini, celebrating and congratulating each other after a key intervention.

“Enthusiasm is important and it's wonderful to see Buffon and Chiellini like that, even after everything they've won. It means they've still got the same hunger.”

Down the other end of the pitch Gonzalo Higuian turned in another big performance – with another goal and another assist.

“Gonzalo's really high on confidence at the moment and he's started setting up his team-mates now.

“[Paulo] Dybala's fitness is improving and the whole team is on the up from a physical point of view.

“The good thing is we made five or six change to the side on Sunday and we did the same again today but the result didn't change. We want to go all the way together.”
