An important win for Juventus Women at Vinovo today, as Joe Montemurro’s girls secured a 2-0 win over Fiorentina, with goals coming in either half from Lineth Beerensteyn and Barbara Bonansea.
The Bianconere began the game on the front foot, and it took just eight minutes for the game’s first big chance, as Bonansea unleashed a shot from distance that Katja Schroffenegger was able to just tip onto the crossbar.
The fast start would be a sign of things to come and shortly after the game’s opening goal would arrive in style. A brilliant ball forward from Julia Grosso was collected by Beerensteyn, who unleashed an unstoppable curling effort at goal that the keeper could on stand and watch fly into the back of the net. Not just Juventus Women’s opening goal of the match, but the Bianconere’s 500th in their history, and what a way to mark it!
A truly super goal and a moment of great emotion, because Lyneth dedicated the goal to her mother, who recently passed away, and the embrace of her teammates is worth more than any words.
Juve went close to increasing their advantage at the end of the half from a corner kick with Arianna Caruso’s effort being saved on the line by Fiorentina’s Alice Parisi, who immediately followed up with a second goal-line clearance from Bonansea.
Just as the first half began, Juventus Women wasted little time in going for it in the second half, and after just 47 minutes Lisa Boattin fired a fierce drive at goal that Schroffenegger was just about able to save by tipping round the post.
The second half mostly saw Juventus Women manage the game, but they would wrap it up around the 70th minute mark when the second goal arrived, as Bonansea skipped past the Fiorentina defence and hit a sublime finish to make it 2-0 to the Bianconere.
The icing was so very nearly on the cake three minutes from time, with substitute, Sofia Cantore going in on goal and her low strike hit the post with the rebound agonisingly not falling over the line.
2-0 it finished and the the Bianconere keep the pressure on leaders Roma with today’s win, which is the perfect way to go into next week’s match against the capital outfit for the Women’s Italian Supercup!
