Juventus captain Gigi Buffon is in the running for UEFA’s Best Save of 2014/15 recognition, an accolade awarded to the finest stop in all of last season’s European competitions.
The goalkeeper finds himself among 10 nominees in the category (chosen by the UEFA Football Committee and UEFA Technical Team) for his sensational block from Dani Alves’ right-footed strike in June’s Champions League final against Barcelona.
With the Bianconeri a goal down and Luis Enrique’s men continuing to attack, the Brazilian full-back’s menacing strike on 13 minutes seemed destined for the top corner, only for Buffon to arch back and pluck the ball away from the line with a magnificent one-handed save.
