Croatia and France reach World Cup Last 16

It was a triple Bianconeri celebration yesterday, as both Croatia and France booked their places in the World Cup Round of 16.

Blaise Matuidi's France were the first team to do so yesterday, as they beat Peru 1-0 in the 5pm kick-off. The only goal of the game was scored by Kylian Mbappe after 34 minutes, when the young French striker was he finished from close range.

Matuidi completed 90 minutes for Les Bleus after previously featuring as a second half substitute in France's opener.

Elsewhere, Mario Mandzukic and Marko Pjaca's Croatia stormed into the next round with a convincing 3-0 win against Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain's Argentina.

Croatia took the lead in the 58th minute, after Argentina keeper Willy Caballero's error allowed Ante Rebic to volley in from close range. Luka Modric doubled their lead 10 minutes from time when he fired home from outside the box, and Ivan Rakitic added the third in the 90th minute, as he slotted home to seal the result.

Mandzukic played 90 minutes coming off as a late sub, whilst Pjaca remained on the bench for this one, and for Argentina Higuain and Dybala were second half substitutes.

DOUGLAS COSTA'S BRAZIL LOOKING FOR FIRST WIN

Brazil line up against Costa Rica in today's 2pm kick-off, hoping to find their first win after being stalled by Switzerland, as they drew their opening game 1-1. Douglas Costa remained on the bench for that one, as the Bianconeri winger will be hoping to get some first World Cup minutes under his belt in this encounter.
