Juan Cuadrado says the Bianconeri were good value for last night’s 2-1 Champions League triumph over Premier League leaders Manchester City, believing the team’s work ethic and spirit to be key factors behind an opening day Group D victory.
Speaking to Sky Italia ahead of today’s training session in Vinovo, the 27-year-old began: “We put in a great performance and it was very important to cross the white line with the desire to get a result. When we play in that manner we’re a truly great team.
Cuadrado, on a season-long loan from Chelsea, revealed Juventus were well-drilled to weather the attacking intent of the Citizens’ front three, with the Colombian winger typifying the team’s tactical blueprint with an industrious shift down the right flank.
"We knew we’d all have to run a lot more yesterday and would be required to dig deep. After sizing things up, we played as a team, looking well organised and sticking to our game plan. In training we work to give our best, and that reaps rewards on matchday.”
With yesterday evening’s morale boosting Champions League win now under their belts, the midfielder is tipping the team to pick up where they left off by reigniting their Scudetto defence with three points away at Genoa on Sunday.
“After the game we said we need to believe in ourselves and that we’re a strong side. We’ll be hard to stop if we play as we did last night. Now it’s time to bounce back in the league and defend our Scudetto title.”
