Imagine being an athlete, a professional footballer who, after a lifetime of sacrifices, has finally made it to the top. And then, suddenly, becoming paralysed from the waist down, not as a result of an accident or injury, but from a rare disease for which the underlying cause is unknown.
This is not a fictional film, but the devastating true story of Daouda Peeters, the Belgian midfielder of Juventus Next Gen. In October 2021, while on loan at Standard Liège, Daouda was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, an autoimmune-based polyneuropathy which affects the peripheral nervous system. Daouda in a few days went from running on the field to being stuck in bed, not knowing what would become of his future, not knowing if he would ever walk again.
From that moment an ordeal began that "Peet" faced head on with immense bravery and determination, a journey which came to a emotional end last March, when he made a full recovery and returned to the football pitch.
His story, incredible and moving, is now told in STILL, the latest original production by Juventus Creator Lab which reveals, through his voice, that of his family members and the professionals who followed him, how Daouda overcame his toughest challenge yet, and is now ready to resume his career. So much so that he recently secured a loan move to Südtirol, with whom he is preparing to play in the Serie B championship this coming campaign.
