And so it begins again. This Saturday at 15:00 CEST at the Amerigo Liguori Stadium in Torre del Greco, Juventus Women's 2023/24 campaign will get underway against Pomigliano.
After the disappointment of not qualifying for the Women's Champions League, the focus is now firmly set on Serie A and Joe Montemurro and his team are hungry to enjoy a good season. Since 2017, Juventus have won all six of their opening-day fixtures, three at home and three on the road.
Bonansea stars against Mozzanica and Chievo Verona
Juventus' historic first Serie A game came against Mozzanica in 2017/18, and expectations were high. Within just eight minutes, Barbara Bonansea had opened the scoring before Benedetta Glionna doubled our lead before the break. Late on, Bonansea killed the game and made sure we returned home from Bergamo with a 3-0 win and three points.
The 2018/19 season started at home for our Bianconere, and they wanted to set their intentions out from the start. Chievo Verona visited and they never looked like causing any trouble. Bonansea opened the scoring in the fifth minute this time, Cristiana Girelli added two more as well. Our other goals in a 6-0 win came from Eni Aluko, Lianne Sanderson and Aurora Galli.
Caruso decisive against Empoli, and a strong second half against Verona
The 2019/20 season was a little more complicated, with Empoli coming to Vinovo hoping to make a real impression. They were aggressive, and they went ahead in the first half from the penalty spot. But Girelli and co. came out fighting after the break and we levelled in the 55th minute before Arianna Caruso pounced in the box to win the game for us.
The tradition extended in 2020/21. On the road at Hellas Verona, Juventus came out flying in search of a goal. It took longer than they would have liked to open the scoring though, but Girelli and Caruso were both on target again to give us another strong start to the season.
Pomigliano beaten in 2021, a win over Como last time out
In 2021/22, Pomigliano made their top-flight bow in Vinovo. The game started well thanks to Martina Rosucci's opener, and then Caruso appeared with a brace in the second half to secure a comfortable 3-0 win.
The latest chapter came on August 27, 2022. Juventus were hosted by Como and they started perfectly, claiming a comprehensive 6-0 win to start the campaign. Girelli netted a hat-trick, while Lineth Beerensteyn and Lisa Boattin were also on target.
