Chievo vs Juventus Women: Match preview

A RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

Despite going down to Brescia 0-1 at home in their Coppa Italia quarter-final, Rita Guarino’s girls still have it all to play for in Serie A, and last time out in the league Juventus Women bounced back from two defeats in a row by beating Ravenna Woman 2-1 at Vinovo.

Juventus Women made the breakthrough in the 43rd minute when Katie Zelem’s corner fell to Arianna Caruso and the midfielder played a pass across goal for Finnish striker, Sanni Franssi to tap home. It was the second goal in two games for Franssi, who had netted the weekend prior in Juve’s 2-1 defeat away at Fiorentina.

The Bianconere doubled their lead in the second half, 12 minutes from time when Aurora Galli sent in a dangerous low ball from the right-hand side that took a deflection off of forward Sofia Cantore and diverted past the Ravenna goalkeeper.

Deep into stoppage time Ravenna Woman pulled a goal back as Emma Errico got up well to head in a cross past Laura Giuliani in the Juventus goal, with the Italian unable to do anything about the effort. It was nothing more than a consolation however, with Juventus Women taking all three points.

FIMAUTO SITTING COMFORTABLY

Fimauto Valpolicella find themselves in sixth place in the Serie A table on 26 points with no threat of possible relegation looming, having done enough over the course of the season. However, recent form isn’t on their side having picked up one win in their last five, losing three times and drawing once.

Last time out Fimauto Valpolicella lost 3-0 away at third-place Tavagnacco, goals from Paola Brumana and a second half brace from Lana Clelland were enough to see off the side from Verona, who also lost Madison Solow to a red card. It’s the second game in a row that they’ve seen themselves reduced to 10, as their previous game before that saw Marta Varriale dismissed in their 1-1 draw away at Ravenna Woman.

LAST TIME VS FIMAUTO VALPOLICELLA

When the Bianconere hosted Fimauto Valpolicella back in January, Juventus Women won 6-0 thanks to a hat-trick of braces. Benedetta Glionna, Katie Zelem and Barbara Bonansea all scored doubles, as Glionna got the ball rolling in the first half, with Bonansea capping the game off in the second in what is Juventus Women’s biggest league win of the season to date!
