Today – Monday, 6 November 2023 – was a special day at the Sports Directors course in Coverciano, with three Juventus representatives present to share their experiences, namely Cristiano Giuntoli, Claudio Chiellini and Giovanni Andreini.
Juventus Football Director Giuntoli delivered a presentation on the 360-degree nature of the role of Sporting Director, from the technical aspects linked to the players' choices and his personal experience, to the relationship with the coaches. Giuntoli also focused on the importance of internal and external communication and that of maintaining a united and cohesive group that pulls in the same direction.
Chiellini (Head of Next Gen Area) presented together with Fabio Gatti (U-23 Sporting Director of Atalanta), focusing on their work with second teams. Chiellini recounted his experience linked to the birth of the then Juventus Under-23, the first case of a second team in Italy. He then illustrated the subsequent steps in the development of the project, from the change of name to Juventus Next Gen, a name that explains in depth the objectives underlying the idea, even in a not purely sporting sense, to the story of the data that explains the benefits for the Club of this work, not least in reference to the sporting contribution given to the First Team.
The third Juventus presentation of the day was delivered by Andreini, Head of Performance Manager, who spoke on the role of the Director in relation to performance in a football club. A job that Andreini experiences firsthand, since, in his second season at Juventus, he is involved in the development of this project, which coordinates all areas linked to sporting and competitive performance.
