It was a special afternoon for Juventus Women captain, Sara Gama, who attended the announcement ceremony for the 2024 Golden Girl and Golden Boy winners, held in the stunning Sala Trasparenza of the Piedmont Region skyscraper in Turin on Wednesday, 27 November.
The event, which celebrates the brightest young talents in men's and women's football in the year that is coming to an end, also saw Sara take part in an interesting talk with young female footballers from Piedmont.
The role of captain: an example of dedication and leadership
Sara then spoke about what it means for her to wear the captain's armband, both for the national team and for Juventus Women.
"Being a captain means always putting the team's interests first, leading by example, and demonstrating on the field what you preach," Gama said.
The value of merit and a look to the future
Speaking on the topic of meritocracy, Sara wanted to convey a positive message: "Not everything is always perfect, but Italian women's football is an example of how merit can take you far, even overcoming difficulties. When I started playing, for example, there was no idea of becoming a professional, and I put the fun of playing this sport above everything else."
Satisfactions and reflections on an extraordinary career
When asked about any regrets, Sara revealed that, if she could go back in time, she would have chosen to play abroad at a younger age. "Going abroad tests you and makes you grow, every experience has enriched me, because challenging yourself is always the most important thing."
