Football never stops. When you win, there's always another target to move onto and when you lose, there's always a chance to bounce back. Football runs fast – perhaps never so much as this season – and yet there's something eternal and indelible which remains over the years: memories. We hold memories of great stories and those who wrote them. And there are very few who did as much for our story as Giovanni Agnelli, L'Avvocato, who passed way 18 years ago today.
It's impossible to describe Giovanni Agnelli in a few words. We could list his triumphs at the helm of Juventus, his unmistakeable style or perhaps, most tellingly, his undying support for the team, even after stepping down as president. That, perhaps more than anything else, demonstrates how strong the bond was, regardless of any roles, commitments or obstacles. It was love.
The things he said and did continue to inspire us to keep working every day to be the best, to keep on winning, drawing on our roots and our history while constantly looking to the future and striving to ensure it is tinged with Bianconeri success. We are sure he would be proud of that. The Super Cup we won a few days ago would have brought a smile to his face and probably inspired another of his comments to become etched in eternity.
Today we will take the field thinking about him, who is always in our memories, in our present and in our victories.
