Four Juventus players were involved in 2022 World Cup qualifying action in Central and South America on Thursday evening.
Weston McKennie played the full 90 minutes for the United States, who defeated El Salvador 1-0. Antonee Robinson scored the crucial goal seven minutes after the restart.
Alex Sandro was also on the field the entire match for Brazil in a fiery fixture at Ecuador. Two players were sent off inside the opening 20 minutes while Brazil goalkeeper Alisson was sent off twice, only for both red cards, and the previous penalty awards, to be rescinded after VAR checks.
Brazil took the lead on six minutes through Casemiro before Ecuador equalised with 15 minutes to play from a Felix Torres header.
Rodrigo Bentancur also started for Uruguay in their victory over Paraguay. Luis Suarez scored the only goal of the game on 50 minutes. Bentancur was substituted with 13 minutes remaining.
Meanwhile, Paulo Dybala was an unused substitute in Argentina’s 2-1 win over Chile. Angel Di Maria put the visitors ahead in the 9th minute, cancelled out by Ben Breton 11 minutes later. However, Lautaro Martinez restored Argentina’s advantage 10 minutes before the interval.
