Saturday, 6 July, was one to forget for our internationals in action in Euro 2024 and the Copa America, with both Turkey and Brazil eliminated from their respective tournaments.
TURKEY BOW OUT WITH HEADS HELD HIGH
Kenan Yildiz’s side went down 2-1 against the Netherlands after going ahead in the first half.
But Ronald Koeman made some changes and turned things around in the second, with the Dutch eventually winning the game through a fortunate and late own goal.
Kenan, again, did well on the night, and played the majority of the game having started and only being taken off with around 10 minutes to play.
BRAZIL SUFFER SHOOTOUT HEARTBREAK
A few hours later and overnight for those of us in Europe, Brazil were knocked out of the Copa America. Danilo and Douglas Luiz were the Bianconeri in action - the former playing the whole game and the latter coming on in the 81st minute - while Gleison Bremer did not take to the field.
After going goalless for 90 minutes, the game went all the way to penalties and Brazil came up short with Douglas Luiz seeing his spot kick come back off the post after Eder Militao had already missed.
