Sunday's match at Continassa wraps up the Summer Tour 2022 for Juventus with their fourth international friendly, who after the match against Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajara, will have faced three of Spain's powerhouses in Barcelona, Real and Atletico Madrid
THE ONLY FRIENDLY MEETING SO FAR...
...was actually played in Stockholm in 2019. The Swedish leg of the International Champions Cup saw the Colchoneros emerge 2-1 victors.
THRILLING FINALE
The history of the meetings between Juve and Atletico began in the Fairs Cup in 1959. Juventus have collected six victories in official matches, suffered just three setbacks - not including the 2019 friendly in Sweden - and two matches have been drawn.
The latest encounters in the Champions League have been particularly worthy of note - as we all well remember. On 26 November 2019 Juve defeated the Colchoneros in the penultimate day of the group stage through a Paulo Dybala goal at the end of the first half. In the first meeting the match ended 2-2, with the Bianconeri ahead through Juan Cuadrado and Blaise Matuidi before succumbing to the sucker-punch equalizer in the 90th minute.
But it was the previous season's showdown that everyone recalls with greater pleasure.
At the Wanda Metropolitano in the first leg of the Round of 16 things do not go as planned, and Atletico opened up a 2-0 lead, making passage to the quarter-finals for Juve very complicated.
But there was one player in particular that still believed...
And how the tie was turned around has gone down in history.
