With their 170th official encounter in all competitions on the horizon, the Bianconeri and the Viola have enjoyed many memorable match-ups in a variety of cup contests.
Over the years, Juventus and Fiorentina have met 12 times in the Coppa Italia where Thursday’s visitors possess the upper hand with five victories, four draws and three defeats. There have also been two encounters in Europe, both won by the Old Lady.
And to mark this week's game, where a sixth triumph would see Massimiliano Allegri’s men take a big step towards the final, Juventus.com takes a chronological look at the key cup games that have ended in the Old Lady’s favour.
Coppa Italia quarter-final: Juventus 3-1 Fiorentina, 1958/59
En route to their third Coppa Italia triumph back in 1959, Juventus marched on to the semi-finals by overcoming Fiorentina 3-1 at the Stadio Comunale.
Giorgio Stivanello gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot on 39 minutes before John Charles added a second on the hour mark.
Regardless of Gianfranco Petris reducing the arrears midway through the second half, Bruno Nicolè added a third sixty seconds from time to allow the Old Lady to set up a last four date with Genoa.
Coppa Italia final: Juventus 3-2 Fiorentina, 1959/60
The following season saw holders Juventus make it back-to-back Coppa Italia titles when they edged Fiorentina in the final following a five-goal thriller at the San Siro.
After Charles and Miguel Montuori struck for either side in the first half, Dino Da Costa put the Viola ahead only for the Gentle Giant to send the game into extra-time with 17 minutes remaining.
As penalties loomed, Fiorentina’s Alberto Orzan turned the ball into his own net to send the Bianconeri faithful wild and secure a fourth triumph for the club in Italy’s premier cup competition.
UEFA Cup final: Juventus 3-1 Fiorentina (agg.), 1989/90
The rivalry was then renewed in Europe at the start of the nineties when Serie A stalwarts Juventus and Fiorentina met in the UEFA Cup final.
During the two-legged affair, the Bianconeri gave themselves a commanding first leg advantage as strikes from Roberto Galia, Pierluigi Casiraghi and Luigi De Agostini ensured a 3-1 victory in Turin.
But with Renato Buso’s away goal providing the Viola with a glimmer of hope for the return clash, the Old Lady had to put in a spirited defensive display to ultimately draw 0-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and lift their second UEFA Cup title.
Coppa Italia last 16: Fiorentina 3-6 Juventus (agg.), 2005/06
It's been almost a decade since the Old Lady were previously pitted against the Viola in the Coppa Italia for a last 16 encounter back in December 2005.
During the first leg in Florence, Valeri Bojinov and Giampaolo Pazzini’s strikes had seen the Viola take an authoritative lead before Juventus hit back with two second-half finishes courtesy of Gianluca Pessotto and Adrian Mutu to make it 2-2.
In the return clash a month later, the Romanian was on the scoresheet again as captain Alessandro Del Piero’s hat-trick inspired the Bianconeri to a 4-1 victory which sent them to the semi-finals where they were defeated by Roma on the away goals rule.
Europa League last 16: Juventus 2-1 Fiorentina (agg.), 2013/14
The two sides then went eight years without meeting each other in a cup competition before they crossed paths at the Europa League last-16 stage in March 2014.
After Mario Gomez’s low effort had cancelled out Arturo Vidal’s opener in the first leg at Juventus Stadium, the Viola only needed a goalless draw on home soil in the return leg to progress to the quarter-finals.
But Andrea Pirlo had other ideas as his spectacular set piece on 71 minutes ensured a memorable 1-0 triumph at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and set up a quarter-final tie with Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.
