JUVENTUS' COMMITMENT AGAINST RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION

A special episode of our Podcast "Sulla Razza" is available on Youtube, an episode in which one of the key players for Juventus, Danilo, talks to Nadeesha Uyangoda and Nathasha Fernando, two of the three authors of the podcast, about creating awareness, giving people the chance to learn, giving voice and above all listening to those who experience discrimination on a daily basis.

Now in its second season, "Sulla Razza" is the most recent example of Juve's commitment against all forms of discrimination, racial and other.

The club’s commitment over more than a decade has seen the implementation of structured programs aimed precisely at creating awareness and giving the new generations the tools necessary to deal with the matter correctly.

THE FIRST STEPS

The Juventus projects, in conjunction with Turin’s UNESCO centre, in the fight against racism first took shape in 2010, establishing the "Un Calcio al Razzismo" scholarship. Keeping in line with the mutual desire to extend the theme the project was adapted in 2013, becoming "Un Calcio al Razzismo–Gioca con me”, broadening its scope to include social inclusion. It was presented on 6 March 2014 at the Unesco headquarters in Paris.

There was also the UNESCO Cup, the proceeds of which were donated to two projects for the recovery of child soldiers from Mali and the Central African Republic, and the document "Colour? What Colour?", presented at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on 27 November 2015, which consisted of a report that concretely analysed the connection between discrimination and the fight against inclusion at an international level in relation to sport.

Racism and discrimination will not go away from football stadiums with the flick of a magic wand. However, they can be contained through systematic, coherent and coordinated action conducted by people who share the same goal, to promote cultural diversity and real social integration in the football world. "Colour? What Colour?"

2021'S PODCAST "SULLA RAZZA"

In 2021 Juventus wanted to get involved further, this time in an even more innovative way for a football club, which consisted in launching a podcast dedicated to the issue of race, focused on a frank examination of this phenomenon. In fact, it is not by avoiding or eliminating the word race that the problem of racism is resolved.

The first season of "Sulla Razza" - produced thanks to the support of Juventus - by Nadeesha Uyangoda, Natasha Fernando and Maria Catena Mancuso, developed a path structured around 12 key words episode by episode. By placing language at the centre, the aim was to translate words belonging to the Anglo-Saxon world that express typical daily racist attitudes but which do not find the right name in the Italian context, except at an academic level.

A podcast that made headlines, and was shortlisted for the Pod Awards in the two categories Diversity and Disclosure.

Also in 2021, Juve made its commitment visible when both men’s and women’s first teams took to the field on the International Day Against Racial Discrimination wearing the special "Numbers don't lie" shirt. A physical gesture that further strengthened the importance of the message of fighting racial discrimination by providing, through statistics, written on the team jerseys, as real a picture as possible of the current situation on the matter.

THE SECOND SEASON, WITH DANILO

The second season of “Sulla Razza” started on 21 March, with a similar structure but different keywords at the heart of the new ten episodes. With an updated look and content, the project included new partners - the podcast, again edited by Nadeesha Uyangoda, Maria Catena Mancuso and Nathasha Fernando and created thanks to Juventus - this year is produced by OnePodcast and distributed on the principal platforms.

To help launch this second season, a special episode was made with Danilo as guest.

A special chat in a very special place, the Juventus Museum. The Bianconeri star took to the field to support the club's commitment against racism. Delving into personal experience, he brought his own point of view to explore concepts such as systemic racism, cultural appropriation and being a racialized sportsman.

The last step of a journey in the club’s commitments, and which certainly will not stop there.

Juventus Football Club, as always, is collaborating with the police to identify those responsible for last night’s racist gestures.

Also in this case, the code of conduct "Codie di Gradimento" will be applied to those found responsible.
