Another win and another record. Juventus Women defeated Napoli 2-0 this afternoon to become the first team to register 30 back-to-back victories in Serie A, beating the 29 matches won by Brescia between 2013 and 2014.
Arianna Caruso and Valentina Cernoia struck within the first five minutes to put the Bianconere in the driving seat, allowing them to control the game and save energy ahead of Wednesday's Champions League showdown with Chelsea at Allianz Stadium (click here to book your seat at what will be a historic occasion).
After seeing off Servette in their opening Champions League group game in midweek Wednesday, the girls got stuck back into domestic matters with real intent as Napoli visited Vinovo in Week 6.
Joe Montemurro continued to make careful use of the squad available to him, starting with Roberta Aprile in goal, Tuija Hyyrynen, Martina Lenzini, Cecilia Salvai and Amanda Nilden at the back, Caruso, Annahita Zamanian and Sofie Pedersen in midfield, and Agnese Bonfantini, Andrea Staskova and Cernoia up front.
Juve made a blistering start and Napoli were simply incapable of withstanding the white-and-black onslaught as Caruso headed in Cernoia's cross to open the scoring with a mere 26 seconds on the clock.
Four minutes later, Cernoia got her own name on the score sheet as she turned in the loose ball after Zamanian had seen her shot saved.
Napoli's response was muted while Juve went close to adding to their tally through Bonfantini, twice played in superbly by Caruso and twice denied by Yolanda Aguirre in the visitors' goal.
After 45 minutes the teams headed in for the break with the Bianconere firmly in control.
Napoli mustered more of a fight after the restart but it was still Juventus – with Sara Gama making her return – fashioning the best of the chances.
Lina Hurtig displayed wonderful skill to get away a near-post effort but Aguirre again made the block.
Napoli kept looking for a way to get back in the game – Soledad Jaimes sending a long-range effort wide of the post – but time and again they found their route to goal blocked off by a Bianconere shirt.
Juve might have got a third late on, with Staskova (twice), Cernoia and Boattin all going close but 2-0 it remained.
However, two goals were more than enough for our girls to claim another record and set up the stage nicely for Wednesday's enticing encounter with Chelsea.
