Juventus Women kicked-off the 2021/22 season with an excellent and dominant display against Birkirkara, which saw them triumph 12-0 against the Maltese side at Vinovo on Sunday evening.
The friendly was the first for Juventus Women in the 2021/22 season and it also marked the first match with Joe Montemurro on the bench. It took just eight minutes for the girls to open the scoring when Cernoia turned home Girelli’s assist at the back post. It soon became 2-0 just seven minutes later when Girelli went from assist provider to goalscorer as she converted a penalty from the spot.
It was one-way traffic for the Bianconere and they made it 3-0: Zamanian played the ball forward to Lundorf, who rolled it across the box for Caruso and she fired home from close range. Lundorf then provided a second assist in the 20th minute, as her cross was met by Boattin at the back post, seeing the left-back knock it in.
Birkirkara’s agony was made worse when Bonansea added a fifth in the 24th minute from Cernoia’s assist. Peyraud-Magnin was then subbed out in the 33rd minute for Roberta Aprile to get a run-out, before Boattin grabbed her second with a low shot on the edge of the box. Juventus were in seventh heaven when a Zamanian free-kick was delivered into the box, Caruso nodded it towards goal and it took a deflection off the opposition for an own goal.
Into the second half and changes were made at the start with Staskova, Lenzini and Bonfantini all being brought on. Zamanian, who was having a masterful game, made it 8-0 in the 49th minute with one of her trademark curling efforts that whirled in at the near post. Bonfantini also got a goal of her own when she tapped in Zamanian’s assist to score on her debut. The 10th goal arrived in the 56th minute when Bonfantini rolled the ball across for Staskova, who ran onto it and slotted it into the back of the net.
Girelli and Staskova grabbed their second goals of the night: Cristiana sliced strike home in the 72nd minute, while the Czech fired home centrally to make it 12-0 a minute later. Those landed up being the final goals of the game, as the Bianconere claimed an impressive victory.
