Looking to bounce back from a loss on the weekend at Arsenal Women, the Juventus Women faced Chelsea FC Women on Wednesday night at Kingsmeadow falling 3-0 to the English Premier League side.
After a strong first half, Rita Guarino's side conceded just before the final whistle as Ramona Bachmann took down a long ball and found the far corner with driven strike to put the home side up 1-0 in the 43rd minute.
In the second half, Juventus Women pushed for the equalizer and came close on multiple occasions through Sara Gama and Lianne Sanderson, playing against one of her former sides.
The Bianconere were unlucky to not find an equalizer and made to pay on 86 minutes as Maren Mjelde curled a shot into the top corner to double the Chelsea lead.
Fran Kirby rounded out the scoring with an impressive effort of her own in stoppage time to seal a 3-0 win that was certainly harsh on the Bianconere who put in a much-improved effort.
"I think after Sunday’s performance we were gutted to lose 5-0 to Arsena,l but we’re in the learning process and today was a much better performance. Defensively and tactically we were better and I think we’ll take the positives and keep growing," said Lianne Sanderson after the match. "This team has only been together for a year so we’re not expected to work miracles overnight and all we can do is grow. We’ve got a fantastic group of girls who never give up and have smiles on their faces. It’s a great environment, so we just need to keep learning from our mistakes and growing."
The Juventus Women will next take the field on Tuesday, 14 August in Vinovo against Lugano at 18.00.
