Juventus Women vs Ravenna Woman: Match preview

JUVE STILL TOP DESPITE DEFEATS

Juventus Women lost their first ever away match last weekend against Fiorentina, having been defeated for the first time ever the weekend prior.

The Bianconere fell behind in Florence when Fiorentina forward, Illaria Mauro slotted home in the 72nd minute after a cross was deflected into her path and she was left to slot past Laura Giuliani in the Juve goal. Seven minutes later and the scores were level, as a corner fell to the feet of Sanni Franssi and the Finnish striker shot past the Fiorentina keeper. However, there was to be a sting in the tail as in the 90th minute, Cecilia Salvai turned the ball into her own net from a Fiorentina corner which gave the home side a 2-1 win.

Although Juventus Women fell in Florence, a last-gasp Atalanta-Mozzanica goal in their game away to Brescia ensured that they won 2-3, and as a result ensured that Juventus Women and Brescia remained level at the top of the standings.

RAVENNA BATTLING FOR SURVIVAL

Ravenna Woman find themselves in ninth place in the league table, two above the relegation places. Their last three games have seen them pick up a win, a draw and a loss, with their last outing a 1-1 draw at home to Fimauto Valpolicella. Midfielder, Linda Casadio gave Ravenna a 54-minute lead and the game would then take a strange twist, as despite the visitors being reduced to 10 in the 79th minute when Marta Varriale was shown her marching orders, Fimauto scored just a minute later to equalise through Silvia Fuselli.

When the two sides met back in December, Juventus Women recorded a 0-5 win away from home. Benedetta Glionna got the Bianconere off the mark after 19 minutes, latching onto a forward pass to slot home and give Rita Guarino’s girls a half-time 0-1 lead. The second half saw Barbara Bonanasea score two goals in the space of eight minutes to make it three, before Sanni Franssi and Katie Zelem both netted in the final 10 minutes to wrap up a convincing win.
