Next Gen on the Road | Olivieri takes the Perugia plaudits

With the top leagues on hold, our update on the Next Gen talents around Italy and Europe turns its attention to Serie B, in which Marco Olivieri scored last weekend.

At the Curi stadium, Perugia were seeking to move off the foot of the table, against a Genoa side team that has set its sights on an immediate return Serie A. Despite the home team's hunger for points, the match seemed destined to end in a deadlock - until the 74th minute and Olivieri's outstanding finish.

A quick counter-attack down the left, the ball played to the feet of Marco, who lost his market with a feint and from the edge of the area curled the ball in at the far post - the game's first and only goal.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

"How much did I miss scoring? For us strikers, goals are our daily bread. You can understand how tough it was, but it was important to win to give us a kick-start. We never deserved to lose lately, so now we'll enjoy this success. Now we must continue down this path, all united."

MARCO'S BLACK AND WHITE STORY

Olivieri arrived in Turin in 2017 and played for Juventus U19 for two years. At the same time, from 2018, he began to take his first steps in Serie C, in the newly formed Under 23, now Next Gen. In total Marco played 47 games, scoring four goals, and in 2020 raised the Serie C Italian Cup. What's more, that same year he also debuted for the First Team, both in Serie A and the Champions League. He added a Serie A winner's medal to his personal collection, which was enriched the following year with a Serie B winner's medial won with Empoli. After that, a stopover at Lecce, where he made 18 appearances, and from January 2022 at Perugia, 30 appearances and now six goals after his screamer this weekend.
