Opposition Focus | Ten things to know about Roma

Juventus brings the year to a close with a home match-up against capital club Roma, who line up against the Bianconeri on Saturday evening at 20.45 CET.

The home side sit second in the Serie A table, with the Giallorossi 12 points back in sixth place, having won just one of their last three encounters.

Ahead of the clash at the Allianz Stadium, here's ten things to know about this weekend's opposition.

1. Roma won their last Serie A match against Juventus (1-0 with a goal from Gianluca Mancini on 5 March 2023) and have not achieved two consecutive league successes against the Bianconeri since 1995, with Carlo Mazzone on the bench.

2. Roma have won only one of their last 13 away games against Juventus in the league (D2, L10): 3-1, on 1 August 2020 – the Giallorossi failed to score eight times over this period.

3. Roma have not won any of their last 15 matches (5D 10L) against teams who were in the top two positions in the Serie A table at the start of the matchday. The Giallorossi's last success against such an opponent dates back to 1 August 2020, against Juventus.

4. Roma won their last league game against Napoli 2-0 and have not obtained two clean sheets in a row in Serie A since April (three in that case).

5. Roma lost nine away games in 2023 in Serie A and in the previous 45 calendar years they only did worse twice: 12 away defeats in 2021 and 10 in 2012.

6. Roma have played 57 matches in 2023 across all competitions (27W, 14D, 16L) and have only twice played more matches in a single calendar year in their history since 1929/30: 60 in 2021 and 59 in 2006.

7. Roma are the only team to have not yet conceded a goal from outside the area in this tournament; the last long-range goal conceded by the Giallorossi in Serie A dates back to 6 May, against Inter (goal by Romelu Lukaku).

8. Between 2015/16 and 2021/22, Paulo Dybala was the Juventus player with the most appearances (293) and the most active participation in goals and assists (160: 115 goals and 45 assists) considering all competitions. La Joya is both Roma's top scorer (15 goals) and assister (11 winning passes) in the 2023 calendar year across all competitions.

9. Romelu Lukaku has scored in Roma's last three official matches; only once has the Belgian recorded a longer run of goals scored in the same season across all competitions since he has been in Italy: four in August 2020 with Inter. Lukaku has scored two career goals against Juventus in all competitions: both from penalties at the Allianz Stadium (in Serie A on 15 May 2021 and in the Italian Cup on 4 April 2023).

10. Leonardo Spinazzola and Leandro Paredes are two exes of this match. The Italian played 10 league matches with the Bianconeri in 2019 while the Argentine played 25 games, scoring one goal, with Juventus last season in Serie A.
