Coach Massimiliano Canzi, Arianna Caruso and Barbara Bonansea spoke to the press after Juventus Women’s First Team’s 0-4 loss against Arsenal on Matchday three of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.
MASSIMILIANO CANZI
“It is a defeat that hurts because we lost by a wide margin, but we are fortunate that we have another match soon and we must now focus on that. We lost some individual duels, then the way the match unfolded led us to risk more than we had prepared for: there are various phases within a single match and when we behind we tried to force the result, also creating interesting opportunities like the one for [Amalie] Vangsgaard that we didn't take advantage of, and so things didn't go as we had hoped. Being able to play against them again next week will be an incentive to show that we can do better than this: of course, we must take one game at a time and remember that we can still qualify and must continue trying to put in great performances.”
ARIANNA CARUSO
“We are very disappointed with the result, this week we will work on all the mistakes we made to make sure we are better in our next match against them: until their second goal we were in the game, then we lost our concentration and against such a strong team you cannot afford to do that. I congratulate them, but I repeat: we have to analyse and work hard because we have all the qualities to achieve a different result in London. It's the first real misstep of the season: it hurts, but we have to show that we know how to react immediately.”
BARBARA BONANSEA
“It's a tough defeat to accept, we had a good first half with good chances in the beginning, even though we were behind at half-time: we had to continue like that, but in the second half we were in trouble and after they made it 0-2, things didn't go well. Being more clinical in front of goal would have definitely helped, but there are times when you can't score in the opening stages, but the game lasts 90 minutes: it's a hard 0-4 to accept, but we keep working to continue our excellent start to the season. This will be fuel for next week's challenge: after defeat, we must get back up and come back stronger. Now we focus on the league match on Sunday, and then we will turn our attention once again to Arsenal.”
