The Primavera’s Coppa Italia dream is over after Lazio snatched a 1-1 semi-final second leg draw to progress to the final 3-1 on aggregate earlier on Saturday afternoon.
Having been on the end of a 2-0 first leg reverse in Rome last weekend, Fabio Grosso’s outfit had it all to do from the get go in Ivrea as they looked to overturn the deficit and reach the final for the second time in three seasons.
Following a goalless first 45 minutes, Younes Bnou-Marzouk broke the deadlock to give the valiant Bianconeri hope 120 seconds into the second half when he capitalised on a Guido Guerrieri error to make it 1-0.
But instead of going forth and bagging that all-important second, the Biancocelesti were next to strike as they equalised on 54 minutes.
With the hosts momentarily down to ten men whilst Claudio Zappa received treatment off the field, Lazio made their numerical advantage count and scored through midfielder Lorenzo Silvagni.
There were to be no further goals as Juventus suffered semi-final heartbreak for the second time in two years whilst the visitors set up a final date with Derby della Capitale rivals Roma.
Grosso’s young guns will be determined to get today’s disappointment out of their systems when they return to domestic matters with an away encounter at Virtus Entella on Sunday 22 February.
