Recap | Juventus Women's 2022

A new beginning is upon us and Juventus Women are determined to make 2023 an extraordinary year.

First, however, let's look back over this year. Five crucial moments, five emblematic matches that shaped the 12 months of football - unlike the Men's First Team due to the World Cup - of the Bianconere's 2022.

ITALIAN SUPER CUP | JUVENTUS 2-1 MILAN

The first stop on our recap has to be the Italian Super Cup final on January 8. There was no better way to start 2022 - a match won thanks to a stand-out moment from Cristiana Girelli. The Bianconere wrote another extraordinary chapter in club history.

A victory that was worth so much due to the high level of the Final Four. To face Milan in the final, Juventus Women had to overcome a feisty Sassuolo in the semi-final, beaten only on penalties.

A success in the final was a special result for everyone, but a little more special for Martina Rosucci, who against the Rossonerie made her 100th appearance in the black and white shirt.

UEFA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | JUVENTUS 2-1 LYON

After upsetting the odds in the inaugural group stage of the UEFA Women's Champions League, the Bianconere qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in their history.

Juve were drawn in the group of death along with Chelsea, Wolfsburg and Servette. The first two were big favorites on the basis of squad strength and international experience, but match after match the impossible became possible, up to the qualification for the knock-out phase against Europe's most successful team, Olympique Lyon.

The success on 23rd March in the fantastic setting of the Allianz Stadium was an authentic masterpiece, considering the prestige of the opponents and how the success unfolded - a sensational comeback with Cristiana Girelli and Agnese Bonfantini grabbing the goals.

The gallery below captures the emotion of the unforgettable night.

The European adventure, especially the head-to-head against the French powerhouse - who at the end of the season overcome Barcelona in the final in Turin to lift the trophy to the sky for the eighth time - was told in a unique way, in an original Juventus production.

SERIE A | JUVENTUS 3-1 SASSUOLO

From the end of March to the beginning of May for another milestone of the 2021/22 season. The fight for the league title with Roma was tense, with both sides collecting point after point, sometimes spectacularly, sometimes less flashy, taking the season down to the wire.

And at the end, the Bianconere stayed ahead of pack. Success against Sassuolo at Vinovo on 7 May made it mathematically certain that Juventus Women had clinched the title. It was the first Scudetto for coach Joe Montemurro, the fifth for a group whose hunger is never satiated.

ITALIAN CUP | JUVENTUS 2-1 ROMA

Another decisive match and another victory with a very special flavour was the Coppa Italia final on 22 May, which closed last season and established another record - a first-ever domestic treble for the Bianconere.

The final against Roma was another battle, a hard-fought contest which required something more than talent to overcome. The Giallorossi went ahead through an Andressa penalty, then Girelli equalised, also from the penalty spot. But with time running out captain Sara Gama struck the winning goal - the best way to end an amazing season.

SERIE A | ROMA - JUVENTUS 2-4

Another special game again against the Giallorossi did not come in the cup but most recently in the league. Matchday 3 of the second half of the regular season saw the Bianconere pay a visit to leaders Roma. Just over a month has passed since the match in Parma which saw the Giallorosse win the Italian Super Cup by beating Juventus Women on penalties.

What was being played at the Tre Fontane stadium was a match that was worth more than just three points. The Giallorossi were attempting to open up a nine-point advantage, instead Juve produced a stupendous performance, which ended with a clear victory for Coach Montemurro's team.

A success built on grit, character and a lot of heart that not only allowed Juventus to close the gap to the top of the standings to just three points, but also sent a very strong signal throughout Serie A - Juve is in contention, and more alive than ever ahead of 2023.

"Before the match with Inter we were going through a difficult moment, it was evident, but I think we've shown that we are strong in moments of weakness. We looked each other in the eye and faced our moment of weakness with awareness, maturity and intelligence and we came through it. Today many thought we were finished, we arrived here six points behind but the never-say-die character of this team emerged: this is Juve. The championship has still a long way to go, but today it was very important to bring home these points". Cristiana Girelli
