Special season stats
With Saturday’s win over Sampdoria, Juventus finished the campaign on 91 points – a total bettered before on only two occasions since the introduction of 20 teams in Serie A: Juve in 2013/14 (102) and Inter in 2006/07 (97).
Massimiliano Allegri’s men have won their last 16 Serie A home games and have not conceded in the most recent 11, with shutouts in the league stretching back to last December.
In this history-making season, the Bianconeri have equalled two Italian top-tier records: 20 goals conceded in a 20-team division, last achieved by the Old Lady in 2011/12, and 22 clean sheets in a single campaign, matching the feats of Juve’s 2013/14 vintage and Milan in 1993/94.
The key to Saturday’s success
The 5-0 scoreline over Sampdoria represented the Bianconeri’s largest margin of victory in all competitions this term.
Not only did they dictate possession with 61.5 per cent in the first half and 71.4 after the interval, but they also peppered visiting keeper Alberto Brignoli’s goal with 12 efforts on target, half of their total number of shots. Sampdoria, meanwhile, forced Neto into just one save over the full 90 minutes.
The hosts’ supreme display also included impressive statistics in terms of crosses (19), touches of the ball (767) and pass completion (90.8 per cent).
Star performances
Paulo Dybala’s brace took his tally to 23 goals in all competitions this season. La Joya has now had a hand in 28 goals in Italy’s top tier this term (19 strikes and nine assists) – a record for a Juventus player in a single Serie A campaign since 2007/08.
Patrice Evra’s goal was his second ever at Juventus Stadium. Coincidentally, both times that the Frenchman has scored in front of the home fans have come as headers against Sampdoria. Yesterday’s strike was also Juventus’ fastest this season (four minutes and 56 seconds).
Giorgio Chiellini marked his milestone of 400 appearances in the black and white with a brilliantly executed half volley that seemed to defy the fact that he had not netted in the league since February 2014 (against Inter). The 2005/06 season remains the only one in which the defender has failed to score in any competition while at the club.
Leonardo Bonucci’s late finish was his third league strike of 2015/16, equalling his personal record set last year. His last eight Serie A strikes have all come in home encounters.
