Stalemate between Milan and Juve

A finely-balanced contest from the first minute to the last. Milan and Juve battled out a hard-fought encounter, without finding that touch of class, the flash of skill, to break the deadlock. Both defences never gave an inch, limiting the forwards and their ability to create. The resulting stalemate didn't lack intensity, especially in the centre of the park, but overall there was little emotion over the 90 minutes.

COMBATIVE FIRST HALF

The game kicked off at a frenetic pace. Juventus looked to take advantage of the width at San Siro, Milan aimed to use Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the pivot in their attack.
Juan Cuadrado was buzzing from one flank to the other. From the left, a corner caused panic in the home defence and from the right on 12 minutes, he ran straight at the Rossoneri defence. His shot swerved off target.
Three minutes later, Rafael Leao cut in from the wing and, after a one-two with Ibrahimovic, hit a shot from the edge of the penalty area, which Wolciech Szczensy parried for a corner. On the half hour, the Swedish striker walked off injured, replaced by Olivier Giroud.
Juventus were seldom tested inside their penalty area and held Milan to a couple of long-distance efforts from Davide Calabria
In attack, the final pass was missing to cause the Rossoneri defence any harm.
A tight combative opening 45 minutes with both defences on top.

NO BREAKTHROUGH

Alvaro Morata was offered a chance to make the breakthrough but his header from Mattia De Sciglio's cross flashed wide of the target.
Juventus were enjoying plenty of possession but were struggling to unsettle the home defence.
One of the Milan back-four, Theo Hernandez, broke forward and his low drive was well covered by Szczesny.
20 minutes into the second half, it was Milan again that created another chance. Giroud's header was well taken on his line by Szczesny.
At the other end, Weston McKennie tried to test Mike Maignan with a header of his own, but his effort drifted wide.
With the playing surface cutting up, and despite both coaches fielding all five substitutes, neither side could craft an opening as the clock ticked down into stoppage time, when nothing would change.
Juventus collected another clean sheet and stretched their unbeaten run to nine in Serie A with a point, which fails to iprove the situation in the league standings.
