Juventus Women claimed their 16th consecutive win in this Serie A campaign (18 in total) after they defeated Fiorentina 2-1 at the Stadio Gino Bozzi on Saturday afternoon courtesy of Andrea Staskova’s brace.
Rita Guarino came into the game having Gama, Bonansea and Maria Alves all missing due to injury, while Girelli started from the bench due to the knock she picked up against Roma in the first leg of the Coppa Italia.
The Bianconere needed only 13 minutes to take the lead: Hurtig thread the ball through to Staskova, who saw her first shot parried, but she got onto the rebound and blasted it into the net.
After grabbing an assist on Staskova’s strike, Hurtig nearly grabbed a goal of her own when she brilliantly turned in the box and fired at goal, only to see her effort denied by Schroffenegger from point-blank range.
Fiorentina’s first dangerous effort of the game resulted in them finding the equalising goal in the 33rd minute, with Clelland’s curling effort from outside the box proving to be unstoppable for Giuliani.
The Bianconere’s lead was restored just two minutes before the break when Boattin launched a long ball up towards Staskova, she controlled it, turned on the ball and worked her way past her markers before flashing it into the net.
Into the second half and Juve started the half in a positive manner, seeing both Caruso and Cernoia’s shots denied by Schroffenegger.
The tempo of the match started to dwindle off, and Girelli, who came on in place of Hurtig in the 82nd minute, attempted an effort inside stoppage time that was saved by the stopper. Zamanian then attempted an acrobatic finish, which flew over the crossbar. Despite the lack of chances, Juventus brought home the three points in a victory which saw then set yet another record: the longest run of consecutive wins in Serie A.
