It was all Juventus yesterday evening at the Stade Auguste Delaune as Italy prepared for their second World Cup outing; this time against the Black, Green and Yellow of Jamaica.
Italy earned a last-minute win in their opener last weekend against Australia by way of a 93’ goal by Barbara Bonansea that sealed the victory in Valenciennes after she also scored Italy’s first goal to tie the match 1-1.
This time it was yet again Juventus that won Italy the match. Dynamic duo, Girelli and Galli scored three and two goals respectively to edge Italy one step closer to the knockout rounds of this year’s World Cup.
First opening with a penalty, Cristiana Girelli put the national team up by one goal early on in the match. She then went on to score another double both assisted by AC Milan counterpart, Manuela Giugliano.
Then steps up Aurora Galli, scoring two goals within 10 minutes to push Italy ahead by five goals to nil.
It has been a tough start to life in the Women’s World Cup for Jamaica who have yet to score a single goal. They play Australia next in Group C while Italy will go head to head with Brazil on Tuesday June 18 at 21:00 CEST. Brazil decisively beat Jamaica 3-0 in their opening match of the tournament but lost to Australia 3-2 in their last match.
Yesterday was also the opening of the Copa America 2019 tournament. Juventus have five players from four different nations playing in the tournament.
Although he was not selected for the match, Alex Sandro and Brazil opened the competition against Bolivia, winning 3-0 by way of a Phillipe Coutinho hat-trick, setting them up nicely for their title challenge.
Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado will go up against each other next as Argentina meet Colombia at 00:00 CEST tonight.
