Today’s match-winner Carlos Tevez says he is determined to make the most of his current purple patch in front of goal, calling it a “unique moment” in his glittering career.
The Argentine hotshot was again decisive in the final third this afternoon, rifling his 24th of the season in all competitions to keep the Bianconeri riding high with a 1-0 win over Genoa.
Explaining how his goal came about, he began: “When I took my second touch I knew I needed to slip inside and charge directly towards goal. The boss always congratulates me for the way I help out the team on the pitch.
“Everyone knows I’m happy here, I don’t want to speak about my future. I just need to enjoy this unique moment that I’m experiencing.”
Never one to rest on his laurels, Tevez called on the rest of the dressing room to follow his lead as he aims to bring down the curtain on a sensational season with a grandstand finish in three competitions.
“We need to wrap up the league title as soon as possible in order to face the Coppa Italia semi-finals and Champions League quarters. We can’t drop our guard.”
When asked about the Champions League draw, the 31-year-old implored the Bianconeri to maintain their focus in their quarter-final double header with French ouftit Monaco.
He added: “I would have preferred to draw Real or Barcelona. Everyone says we’re in the semis – but that’s not the case. Monaco are a very strong side. If we underestimate them we’re out of the competition.”
