Juventus and Medhi Benatia have now gone their separate ways, after the Moroccan defender joined Al Duhail Sports Club in Qatar.
Here is the official statement:
AGREEMENT WITH AL DUHAIL SPORTS CLUB FOR THE DEFINITIVE DISPOSAL OF THE PLAYER MEDHI BENATIA
Turin, 28 January 2019 - Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces that an agreement has been finalized with Al Duhail Sports Club for the definitive disposal of the registration rights of the player Medhi El Mouttaqui-Benatia for a consideration of € 8 million to be paid in two instalments within October 2019. The permanent transfer fee may increase of further maximum € 2 million on achieving given conditions in the course of the duration of the contract.
The disposal does not generate any significant economic effect for Juventus.
Arriving at Juventus in July 2016, Benatia immediately became a dependable player by demonstrating his qualities of physical prowess, class and defensive vision. In total, he played 40 Serie A matches in the Juventus jersey, scoring three goals, the last of which was a decisive one against his former club Roma in December 2017. He made 14 appearances in the Champions League, one in the Italian Super Cup and four in the Coppa Italia, in which his two goals for Juve in that competition came in last year's final against Milan, as the Bianconeri went on to lift the trophy.
Two Scudetti, two Coppa Italias and an Italian Super Cup are Benatia's honours in Bianconero. Juve won 42 of the 59 games in all competitions, in which the Moroccan defender played (71%), keeping a cleansheet in 32 matches (54%).
Always ready to respond to the call and do it with high level performances, for this and much more we sincerely thank Medhi Benatia and wish him all the best in his new chapter.
