Fortress fading
Torino’s home record is the 12th best in Serie A (21 points) this season, but one that is slipping fast in the standings after an impeccable start of three straight wins recorded at the Stadio Olimpico in August and September against Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Palermo.
Since then, Giampiero Ventura’s men have struggled for form in front of their fans, picking up just a further 12 points in their backyard and only two more victories in the meantime against Bologna and Frosinone respectively.
Dutiful defence
Torino have the joint eighth-best defensive record in home matches this term, having let in 15 goals at the Stadio Olimpico.
Only three sides have conceded fewer shots to the opposition in their own backyard than the Granata, meaning that Juventus will have to be at their best on Sunday afternoon in order to carve out their goalscoring opportunities.
As is clear from the diagram to the right (showing the average positions taken up by Torino players in their last home match against Lazio) it's clear that the three-man defence prefers to sit deep, while the wing-backs often tuck in to make for a more compact midfield.
Accurate aim
Torino’s main forte at the Stadio Olimpico is their phenomenal shooting accuracy. 39.3 per cent of their efforts end up on target – more than any other Serie A side.
Despite such precision up front, however, they have not converted a particularly high proportion of shots into goals, of which they have scored 20 at home. Indeed, ten other top-tier teams enjoy a better strike-rate than Ventura’s charges.
Brighter with Belotti
Having been used sparingly in his first six months at Torino since a summer arrival from Palermo, Andrea Belotti has established himself as a key figure in the Granata attack in 2016, netting six times (four at home) since helping himself to a brace at home to Frosinone on 16 January.
The 22-year-old, who is his side’s leading marksman with seven goals this season, has also chipped in with four assists at the Stadio Olimpico.
Meanwhile, further key contributions in the final third have come the way of Daniele Baselli, the provider of 21 scoring opportunities at the Olimpico alone, while Ciro Immobile is also proving effective up front since arriving on loan in January from Sevilla. The former Dortmund striker has five goals and as many assists to his name in just 11 Serie A outings, the majority of which have however come away from Turin.
