BENFICA'S HISTORY
Sport Lisboa e Benfica, the club’s full name, was founded in February 1904 as Sport Lisboa and then merged with Grupo Sport Benfica (founded in 1906) in 1908, forming the current club.
They are the most successful club in Portuguese football, winning 38 league titles, 26 Portuguese Cups, seven League Cups, and eight Super Cups. They have also won the European Cup on two occasions, competing in seven finals. They’ve made it to three Europa League finals as well, but have never won the competition.
Wearing their iconic red shirt, their club symbol of the eagle is just as symbolic.
