What a start to the 2023 Women's World Cup for the Azzurre! And what a start, above all, for our Cristiana Girelli!
Italy began their World Cup with a 1-0 win over Argentina and their late winner came courtesy of a header from the Bianconere's own no.10, just moments after she had come off the bench as a substitute.
The goal sealed three points for Italy that leave Milena Bertolini's team level at the top of Group G with Sweden, who themselves won with a late goal against South Africa.
Cristiana wasn't the only Juventus player to appear for Italy. Lisa Boattin, Cecilia Salvai, Barbara Bonansea, Arianna Caruso and Chiara Beccari all started, while Sofia Cantore was also introduced in the second half.
Not a bad start in New Zealand!
