Juventus Women have added another January signing, with Viola Calligaris arriving from Paris Saint-Germain. The defender comes in on loan until June 30, 2024.
Calligaris, 27, is a Switzerland international and began her professional career on home soil with SC Kriens at just 15 years old.
It didn’t take her long to impress there, then joining BSC Young Boys in 2013, before spending four impressive seasons there. Her time at the Bern club saw her earn an international call-up and brought her debut for the Swiss national team.
Then a big chance of scenery came in 2017, when Viola left Switzerland for the first time to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. With Atleti, Calligaris won back-to-back league titles in 2018 and 2019, before joining another Spanish side in Levante.
She would then stay put there until the summer of 2023, when PSG made their move.
All of these experiences allowed her to become an established player at international level with Switzerland, and she already has more than 40 caps to her name. She has also scored five goals for her country, and played in the European Championship in 2017 and 2022, as well as taking part in the 2023 Women’s World Cup as Switzerland reached the last 16.
In the recent Women’s Nations League, Viola found herself facing Italy on two occasions, meaning she will already be somewhat familiar with many of her new teammates.
Welcome to Juventus, Viola. We look forward to seeing you on the pitch!
