For the third edition in a row, the World Cup champion failed to make it out of the group stage as Sami Khedira's Germany fell 2-0 to South Korea in a must-win match on Wednesday ending Die Mannschaft's tournament.
Khedira played 58 minutes on Wednesday before being substituted for Mario Gomez as the Germans looked to find the goal they needed. With Sweden defeating Mexico 3-0, a win would've secured passage despite falling in the first match, but Germany could not find an opener and conceded twice in stoppage time to lose 2-0. Mexico and Sweden advance through group F.
BRAZIL PASS THE TEST
For Brazil, a similarly surprising exit was a possibility on Wednesday as they faced Serbia with the winner advancing, but La Seleção would have no such trouble putting in a very professional performance in a 2-0 win.
Paulinho and Thiago Silva found goals on each side of half-time to secure the win which sees Brazil face Mexico in a round of 16 blockbuster. Douglas Costa did not feature in the match as he works through an injury.
CUADRADO'S COLOMBIA LOOK FOR QUALIFICATION
Today, the group stage finishes in Russia as Wojciech Szczesny's Poland looks to finish their tournament strong against Japan while Juan Cuadrado's Colombia faces Senegal in an all-important winner-take-all encounter.
If Cuadrado and Los Cafeteros win, they will advance to the knock-out round while if Senegal earn a draw or a win, Colombia will be eliminated. Colombia could also advance with a draw if Japan lose to Polando.
