Juventus will learn their 2017/18 UEFA Champions League opponents on Thursday evening in Monaco at the annual group stage draw set for 18.00 CEST. Here’s everything you need to know about the draw:
As champions of Italy, Juventus will once again be in Pot 1 along with the winners of the seven other top leagues in UEFA.
Pot 1 (Sorted by UEFA coefficient)
- Real Madrid(ESP)
- Bayern Munich(GER)
- Juventus(ITA)
- Benfica(POR)
- Chelsea(ENG)
- Shakhtar Donetsk(UKR)
- Monaco(FRA)
- Spartak Moscow(RUS)
With the eight league winners in Pot 1, Pot 2 becomes arguably as strong from the top to the bottom as Pot 1 meaning we will certainly have many mouth-watering ties in the group stage. With five out of the eight teams from the two leagues, there's a better than 50% chance that Juve will be drawn against either an English Premier League or La Liga side.
Pot 2 (Sorted by UEFA coefficient)
- Barcelona(ESP)
- Atletico Madrid(ESP)
- Paris Saint-Germain(FRA)
- Borussia Dortmund(GER)
- Sevilla(ESP)
- Manchester City(ENG)
- Porto(POR)
- Manchester United(ENG)
Pot 3 features two Serie A sides in Napoli and Roma meaning the list of teams Juve could draw from this post is narrowed. Additionally, if Juve draws either Manchester City or Manchester United from pot 2, that would further narrow the field eliminating Tottenham and Liverpool from selection.
Pot 3 (Sorted by UEFA coefficient)
- Napoli(ITA)*
- Tottenham(ENG)
- Basel(SUI)
- Olympiacos(GRE)
- Anderlecht(BEL)
- Liverpool(ENG)
- Roma(ITA)*
- Besiktas(TUR)
*Teams cannot be drawn with a club in their own country
Pot 4 is the most diverse with all eight clubs coming from different countries. Juve could travel as far as Azerbaijan if they draw Qarabag while some other tricky European sides could be drawn from this pot as well.
Pot 4 (Sorted by UEFA coefficient)
- Celtic(SCO)
- CSKA Moscow(RUS)
- Sporting CP(POR)
- APOEL(CYP)
- Feyenoord(NED)
- Maribor(SVN)
- Qarabag(AZB)
- RB Leipzig(GER)
