30 March 2023
Juventus-Verona from last season was the much anticipated first match after the drama of the winter transfer market session.
And who other than the two new arrivals, Dušan Vlahović and Denis Zakaria, could decide the outcome with a goal in either half on a foggy evening at the Allianz Stadium.
THE QUEST FOR THE TOP FOUR
Juventus-Verona arrived on matchday 24 and offered an opportunity because - following Atalanta's defeat at home to Cagliari - the Bianconeri had the chance to complete a determined and patient chase of the Dea and finally leapfrog the side from Bergamo into fourth place.
An opportunity that the Lady would not let slip through her fingers.
DUSAN'S DREAM DEBUT
All eyes were on Vlahović after his transfer from Fiorentina. Dušan had an impressive scoring average to maintain and the striker lived up to expectations.
Just before the quarter of an hour he was sent through on goal and face to face with Lorenzo Montipò got the better of the Verona keeper with a delightful lob.
ZAK ON TRACK
After Vlahović, it was up to Zakaria to score the game's second goal in the second half. The midfielder, also making his Juventus debut, received a pass in space after some excellent lead-up play from Alvaro Morata. Denis slotted the ball home to double the lead.
HUNGRY FOR MORE
With the cushion of the second goal arriving on the hour, there was still time to extend the advantage. Adrien Rabiot came closest to adding to the tally with a solo effort that brought out a great save from the Verona keeper.
Come the full-time whistle, however, the two goals from the debut boys were enough to decide the outcome.
