After a year of success in black and white, where he won the Scudetto and the Supercoppa, Alex Sandro will be hoping to add one final piece of silverware this season to his already glittering trophy cabinet, when he and Brazil face Peru in the final of the Copa America. Kick-off at Maracana is scheduled for 22:00 CEST.
It’s been an impressive road to the final for Tite’s Selecao side, having won four of the five matches (drawing just once in the group stage to Paraguay) played, and having yet to concede a goal in the tournament. Alex Sandro has, of course, been at the heart of Brazil’s road to Rio, seeing him work his way into the set-up in the last three matches against: Peru, Paraguay, and Paulo Dybala’s Argentina.
‘La Joya’, meanwhile, featured last night for Albiceleste from the first minute in a 2-1 win over Chile, where he found the back of the net in the 22nd minute after Sergio Aguero opened the scoring, to help Argentina claim bronze in the tournament.
Tonight, though, all attention falls to Alex Sandro… He will be hoping to be included in the starting XI against Peru – a team Brazil are well acquainted with having brushed them aside 5-0 in the final Group C match. But, above all, Sandro will be itching to see his country go on to lift the iconic Copa America (for the first time since 2007) in front of their home crowd.
Only 90 minutes separates Alex Sandro and Brazil from being dubbed a Copa America champion. All the best!
