Massimiliano Allegri says the Bianconeri were unfortunate to leave the Stadio Olimpico with nothing to show for their efforts during today’s Derby della Mole with Torino.
With the woodwork rattled on three occasions in the second-half and Daniele Padelli pulling off a string of decent saves, the manager believes he has just cause to rue the team’s bad luck as they pressed to get back into the game.
Speaking to the media after the encounter, Allegri began: “Sometimes the unthinkable happens in football. In the first game we won through a goal in the 94th minute, while today we played much better but come away empty handed.
“This was one of our best performances in recent times, and a match in which we created a great deal. We deserved better and were a combination of unlucky and imprecise in front of goal.”
One area for improvement pinpointed by Allegri lay in the team’s reaction after going in front through Andrea Pirlo’s magnificent free-kick.
Instead of going for the jugular, he believes his men should have shown patience and made seeing out their first-half advantage the number one priority.
“We made life difficult for ourselves after going in front. All we needed to do was keep the ball among our defenders. Pushing for the 2-0 made no sense at all.
“There are certain phases in the game in which you also need to wait and be patient, leaving those who find themselves a goal behind to dictate the play. Ending the first half in front would have been important.”
