Massimiliano Allegri praised his players for the way they set about grinding out another important three points with this evening’s triumph over an in-form Palermo.
Tonight’s 1-0 success, sealed courtesy of Alvaro Morata’s fine finish, marks the Bianconeri’s second consecutive defensive shut out and Allegri believes they are rediscovering their solidity at just the right time.
Speaking to reporters at the end of the game, the 47-year-old began: “We performed well this evening, showed maturity and barely gave Palermo an inch.
“We could have done better after we had taken the lead, but a bit of tiredness crept in. We’ve kept back-to-back clean sheets and tonight’s is one less victory that’s required for the title.”
Attentions now turn to Wednesday’s Champions League last 16 second leg game against Borussia Dortmund, and the Tuscan tactician is confident his men have what it takes to prolong their European adventure by claiming a positive result at the Westfalenstadion.
“In Dortmund we need to perform better from a technical standpoint. It will be difficult but we’ve got a good chance of going through. We know all about Borussia’s qualities. It’s a game in which we need to score, perhaps more than once, so we need to play on the front foot and perhaps also have a slice of luck.
"However, we approach it with plenty of enthusiasm and must make sure our preparations are spot on.”
