Massimiliano Allegri believes the Bianconeri should have held on to their advantage at the Bentegodi and signed off this season’s Serie A campaign with all three points, but was quick to sweep Juanito Gomez’s late equaliser under the carpet and focus his attentions on next Saturday’s Champions League final against Barcelona.

The Tuscan tactician claims a gradual but meticulous build-up is required to get his players into the right frame of mind for taking on Luis Enrique’s men, and says his battle plan will begin to be rolled out when the squad return to training on Monday.

Speaking to the media in Veneto, Allegri said: “We played well in parts, at other times we were less focused and made technical mistakes. We handled our lead badly, missing a penalty, and not seeing out the final few minutes.

“We must try to limit Barcelona and not just think about them, but also play our own game. The team don’t need firing up, patience, a level-headed approach and mental strength are what will be required.

“We’ll rest tomorrow and get to work on the game from Monday onwards. It’s not every day you get to play a Champions League final and we need to prepare for it with a calm approach.”
