On the eve of his 24th birthday, Paulo Dybala started for Argentina who faced Nigeria in Krasnodar. La Joya played 63 minutes of a shock 4-2 win for Nigeria, with the Argentines taking a 2-0 lead through Ever Banega and Sergio Aguero, before they were emphatically pegged back by goals from Kelechi Ihenacho, an Alex Iwobi brace, and Brian Idowu.
Rodrigo Bentancur completed another 90 minutes for Uruguay who played Austria away. Marcel Sabitzer opened the scoring for the hosts after just five minutes, but then Edinson Cavani equalised for La Celeste on the 10-minute mark. Austria were able to find a winner three minutes from time when Louis Schaub struck to hand the hosts a 2-1 win.
It was Bianconero vs Bianconero in Cologne, as Sami Khedira’s Germany faced off against Blaise Matuidi’s France. Alexandre Lacazette gave the visitors a half-time lead, before Timo Werner evened things up in the second. Lacazette then got his second of the match to restore France’s lead after Matuidi had been substituted in the 64th minute. Khedira then followed suit, coming off on 75 minutes, and just when it looked like the visitors were heading for victory, substitute Lars Stindl scored in stoppage time to tie the match at 2-2.
Alex Sandro and Douglas Costa were part of Brazil’s team to face England, but remained on the bench in the 0-0 draw at Wembley.
