Juventus have met Monza in the Coppa Italia four times but just once before in Turin. That one and only tie dates back to 28 August 1985.
Michel Platini was among those in the Juve ranks on the pitch against the team from Brianza at the Comunale stadium.
ALL EYES ON LAUDRUP
Juventus-Monza was the third match of the group stage of the Coppa Italia. It was not the Bianconeri's first outing in front of their own fans, having made their debut with a 6-2 win over Casertana.
One the players creating a stir was Michael Laudrup. The Dane had finally arrived at Juventus after having spent two seasons on loan at Lazio, and the Bianconeri were banking heavily on his talent.
ALL SQUARE
Juventus and Monza were on polar opposites of the football spectrum. The Bianconeri were setting off on one of their best seasons in club history, going on to lift the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo and claim their 22nd scudetto.
The team from Brianza, on the other hand, will have been relegated to Serie C come the end of the 1985/86 season. Yet, on that evening in late August a goal from Lionello Manfredonia was needed with a bullet from outside the area at the start of the second half to cancel out Roberto Antonelli's opener for the visitors.
The match ended 1-1, much to the surprise of those at the stadium.
THE FRIENDLIES
Two friendlies have been played in Turin between Juventus and Monza. The first dates back to June 1954 and saw the hosts prevail 7-4.
The second is more recent, at the Vinovo training ground on 9 January 2014. The result of the unofficial friendly was 4-1 to Juve with Simone Padoin, Claudio Marchisio, Mirko Vucinic and Sebastian Giovinco on target for the Bianconeri.
