Leonardo Bonucci has praised his team-mates for following up their Champions League heroics with victory in Serie A over Genoa on Sunday night.
“It was important to get a result in the league after going through in the Champions League,” said Bonucci after the game, which saw the defender score a stunning solo effort to make it 4-0. “It was a lovely goal. We have our feet on the ground and we prefer to forget the past and focus on the future.”
Bonucci shared a high five with his coach after his goal, stressing that their difference of opinions earlier in the season was very much in the past.
“What happened is gone now. He’s been great with everyone and motivated us for a tough end to the season,” said the Italian defender.
Bonucci went on to urge his team-mates to maintain their focus ahead of the league climax.
“There aren’t many games left now and we’ve kept our lead intact,” he said. “We have three league matches now and two in the Champions League – that’s going to be the key period in our season.”
