Another win, another clean sheet, another step closer to making history. While this will ultimately be the summary of the Bianconeri’s 4-0 victory over Palermo on Sunday afternoon, the resounding scoreline told only part of the story in the eyes of rearguard regular Leonardo Bonucci.
Speaking after the game, the defender began: “The injury to (Claudio) Marchisio had a negative effect on us. In the moments afterwards, it was almost as if we were in shock. We recovered well though and got back into the groove when we needed to. We took to the field as usual to win today but also to extend our lead further at the top.”
Ever the voice of reason, no one knows better than Bonucci that the job is still yet to be completed for Juve, who now must regroup, regain focus and go again at home to Lazio next Wednesday.
“We must prove how much this league title means to us on Wednesday. What motivates me is the thought of becoming a Juventus legend and that will begin with lifting our fifth consecutive Scudetto at the end of the season.”
The Old Lady’s number 19 concluded with a word on the 3-5-2 system that has yielded so much success for the reigning champions in the last few years, handing Leonardo a role that plays to his many strengths.
“I feel very comfortable operating in the centre of a three-man defence. The position that I play allows me to see plenty of the game and makes me as useful as possible to the team. My goal is to keep improving and to make myself available to the coach and team-mates week in, week out.”
